Last weekend I was talking to one of my friends at a party on the topic of being consistent with your workouts. I told him that sometimes I’ll ask some of my clients if they completed all of their workouts for the week, and some of them give me a hesitant look and say “no, I just couldn’t get to it.”
After I said this I had a similar situation happen to me. My mother asked me the question if I had been consistently going to church every week. And ironically, I gave the same answer to my mother feeling disempowered. I knew better because I know for a fact I could have attended several church masses with no problem. I was too lazy and felt like sleeping in instead. That was it.
I am sure this correlates with working out. Poor excuses are nothing but poor excuses. You are only fooling yourself. If a person really wants to workout, they will find a way and “just do it.” The trick here is finding a way to enjoy the process, such as signing up for a group fitness class, working out with a friend, listening to your favorite new music on you ipod, registering for a sports league, meeting new friends, challenging yourself on the sport field/court, . . . whatever.
Like Nike says, “Just Do It!” Don’t be lazy.
