Strength Training for women is a must. It is through loss of strength that age really becomes apparent. As we age, our muscles will deteriorate if not used. Up to 5% of our muscle wastes away each decade after 40. If we are sedentary, we will lose muscle mass, and strength. Unfortunately, if we lose enough muscle mass over time, we will not be able to do everyday things. Think of simple things like getting in, and out of a chair. Walking up and down a stairway.
Lifting groceries, grandchildren, and household objects. Can you imagine strengthening your back and it’s surrounding muscles so that you don’t get injured? This is very possible. It is also possible, and probable that if you do not start a strength training program now… you will end up injured. Studies show that for every person over 55 years old that has a slip and fall, over 60% of them will have problems for the rest of their lives! Problems so bad, that they involve never being able to take care of themselves, or problems that send them into surgery! Of course, anyone can slip and fall, but that is not exactly the problem. The problem is why this happens in the first place, and how you can prevent it.
As we age, we lose strength. Unless we have lead an active life, and kept our body functioning with physical demands, we will go downhill. Building muscle is much more than just looking good. Building muscle definitely adds shape to your body, but that is just the bonus. By placing a demand on your muscles in a controlled fashion as in hiring a personal trainer, weight training, starting a weight lifting program or class, you will create a strong, balanced, fit body. If you gradually add muscle mass to your physique, not only will you get stronger, you will have a higher resting metabolism. By adding muscle to your frame, you will speed up your metabolism and be less likely to gain body fat. If you have more muscle on your body than fat, researchers say that you will be less likely to succumb to diseases like Type II Diabetes, Heart Disease, and a host of other obesity related problems.
