In a nutshell, the Nautilus E514 is a terrific piece of equipment. I live in an apartment where space is a concern and I wanted a cardio fitness machine which was quiet and relatively compact.
Hence I immediately eliminated a treadmill and the stationary bike just appeared too boring. So I made the decision to purchase an elliptical trainer.
I looked online to see reviews and recognized several models which were generally given good reviews however, because there is no consensus I made the decision to stop over at a nearby Dick’s Sporting Goods and get a first hand feel of them. I am lucky I decided to do this!
Initially I was quite inclined towards the AudioStrider, however it turned out to be rather shaky. Consequently I began testing a few of the expensive elliptical machines which were displayed.
As the majority of the internet reviews had stated, the elliptical machines which were over the $1000 mark were a lot sturdier. This I found to be true.
Additionally, they had more features like variable strides and inclines. However, the issue was that they are enormous at typically 80″ in length which was too huge for my apartment.
It was then that I stumbled across the Elliptical Trainer. It was only 60″ long and felt very sturdy. It was extremely quiet, operated very smoothly and had a chest strap with telemetry incorporated which I thought was awesome.
Needless to say, I opted for the Nautilus Elliptical E514 and have been extremely pleased with my purchase. I’ve been exercising regularly for about 2 months now and still find the E514 as sturdy, smooth and quiet as when I first laid hands on it!
I haven’t used the chest strap much however it appears to operate fairly well. In comparison, the handle bar monitor appears to have a slow response when I place my hands over it but this doesn’t really affect my workout routines.
I ought to also point out that the E514 Elliptical was very easy to set-up, taking just under 2 hours. All instructions are clearly marked and all tools provided.
My only complaint about the E514 Trainer is that it doesn’t have a variable stride, however this is a minor issue. The 18″ stride feels just fine for my 5’-10”, 175 lbs frame. Its only when I attempt to sprint during my very last minute of workout that I feel it’s short otherwise its great!
Overall, the Nautilus E514 Elliptical Trainer is a great elliptical and I heartily recommend it.
