The question “how important are carbs for building muscle?” is often asked. We’re all looking for a little “more” in our lives, and that more is going to be many different things. For instance, you may want to be the best cook around, or even the best piano player – and some people just want to be the best-bodied individual that they can be. Many people aren’t aware of the nutritional aspect behind building muscle, as well as the fact that your body is going to be a lot different than others. You’re an individual, and you have to approach building your muscles as such – I’m going to help you out as much as I can with this piece.

I’m the type of man that’s going to wake up and automatically hit the metal (which is lingo for going to the gym, if you weren’t aware). I love getting a good pump in before I start the day, it just feels right, especially since I’ve made it a part of my daily routine. After reading this entire article, you should have a relatively good idea as to how you can go about building muscle. There are simple questions like “are carbs good for building muscle?”, and then there are some much more intricate ones.

Nutrition

The most important part of this entire ordeal is going to be your nutrition, and that means a lot of thought will have to go into your food choices. You can’t just rely on regular carbs for building muscle, as a lot of products have certain additives. Complex carbs will always be ahead of the regular variety, although carbs for building muscle is always going to be looked at as “obvious”. I was always eating cheeseburgers and stuff, but I had to think about my body for once.

I began making sure I didn’t intake too many calories, and I also made sure that I was getting a decent amount of greens into my system. There are plenty of supplements on the market that will improve upon your muscle building times as well – if you wanted to go the quick route, supplements are pretty much a must.

Do you need carbs for building muscle?

You need a balanced diet in all aspects, so yes; carbs are going to be really important. A lot of youth sports coaches will tell you to “load up on carbs” before a big game, because it’s supposed to promote a large amount of energy. Truth is, too many carbs for building muscle can be bad for you – unless you’re working really hard in the gym. If you’re wondering “do you need carbs to build muscle”, then you probably aren’t at that stage yet. There’s a point where if you’re working out enough, you can literally eat whatever you’d like.

It’s strange to think about it, but a lot of bodybuilders (or ‘strongmen’, which are people who compete in strength competitions) will eat as much as they can on a daily basis. If you want to get bigger, you’ll have to eat bigger; the massive amount of food that you’re taking in can simply be turned into energy (and then, eventually, muscle). Now you’ll never have to wonder “are carbs good for building muscle” ever again.

Workout routines

There are a lot of different schedules and routines to follow on the internet these days, but it’s hard to figure out which one will fit your current body type. You don’t want to overwork yourself initially, because the results might not come as quickly as you’d like. You have to start at comfortable weights, and then gradually increase them as you notice progress. If you feel stronger on a certain day, push your limits and see if it’s time to bump the weight up. You always want to be working yourself hard, but not overworking your muscles – that’s just like asking for an injury to happen. Make sure that you’re covering all of your muscles throughout the week, you shouldn’t be doing them every single day! A typical workout routine would look like:

  • Day 1: Back, Shoulders, Biceps
  • Day 2: Torso, Chest, Cardio
  • Day 3: Legs, Chest, Back
  • And so on, and so forth!
  • Supplements: Which ones do I take?

    You’ll want to get protein almost automatically, a lot of people take protein and say that it shows pretty promising results. I take protein almost every single day, it’s the one supplement that I’ve still got inside of my “muscle cabinet” now. I used to take a lot of pre-workouts and such, but I have no need for those. They helped with my energy and getting that extra little bit out of my workout for a while, but I’ve found that I don’t like them as much. There are tons of different protein companies for you to try out, so just give a few of them a shot and see which benefits you the most (or tastes the best).

    Some people like taking creatine as well, and although I’ve never personally done it, apparently the results are pretty good. Creatine is a supplement that (supposedly) makes your muscles appear larger and build faster – but like I said, I’ve never done the stuff!

    Anything else I should know?

    Everybody is going to build muscle at their own pace, so don’t get discouraged. If you think that the muscle buffs at the gym are going to laugh at you, don’t. Most of them are going to respect you for having the courage to better yourself, and if they don’t, you can just ignore them. Anybody who is stupid enough to hate somebody for trying to build muscle is nothing but a bully. You should also remember that illegal supplements aren’t the answer!

    I don’t want any of my readers taking steroids, because the side effects are relatively serious in most cases. I know that the thrill of being massive is going to seem worth it to some people, but you’ve still got to work out; so why not just do it the legitimate way? I can’t hold your hand through the entire process, but I feel like I’ve dished out some pretty useful information today. Now get out there and start bending some bars!
