Martial Arts Kids & Youth: ages 7-16

In addition to developing physical fitness, self-defense and safety skills, our Martial Arts program also helps your child build confidence, focus and respect for oneself and others. Studies have shown that children who study Martial Arts often show significant improvement in concentration and self-discipline — both in school and at home. More than any other sport for children, Martial Arts and its inherent values counteract the “win at all costs” mentality so common in sports today. It is also one of the few sports in which there are no benchwarmers: every child can fully participate at their own pace. This makes it particularly helpful for children who struggle with attention and behavior disorders.

Martial Arts (students) will learn the basic strikes, blocks, kicks and stances used in Martial Arts training. This fundamental training also strengthens and prepares the body for the more difficult techniques ahead in one’s training. From the first day of class, values of respect, courtesy, control and discipline are instilled in every student. Instructors provide training that is interesting and challenging while reinforcing these important values.

Martial Arts for Adults

For adults, martial arts classes provide a fun and challenging exercise routine and offer a great alternative to traditional gym workouts. Our classes build strength, endurance, flexibility and coordination, and foster an overall sense of well being.

Regardless of whether you want to become a competitive athlete, learn self-defense techniques or simply become more physically fit, this program will help you achieve your goal. You develop increased endurance and muscle tone; improve balance, quicker reflexes, and most importantly a greater sense of well being. Keep in mind that no previous experience is required. And if you do have some experience in martial arts, this program is a great place to rediscover the many benefits of martial arts training.

Beginners

In the beginner class, adult students will focus on the fundamentals of traditional Martial Arts. Students will practice the basic stances, blocks, and strikes while learning how to use various training equipment, including focus mitts and heavy bags. This class will also emphasize basic conditioning and self-defense.

Intermediate

In the intermediate class, students’ balance, coordination, and timing will further be challenged as they practice various combinations with their basics, forms, and sparring techniques. This class will also emphasize conditioning and self-defense.

Advanced

The adult advanced Martial Arts class is geared towards brown and black belts who want to challenge their timing, coordination, strength, focus, endurance, and technical ability. This class will further develop each student’s understanding of the art while also emphasizing conditioning and self-defense.

word

Students learn the traditional forms (Kata) that make up the Isshin-Ryu system. These katas are prearranged routines that incorporate various stances, blocks and strikes, and challenge each student’s balance, coordination, stamina and breath control as they learn to move with the rhythm and direction of each form. Students start with the most basic forms and eventually advance to the black belt curriculum.

Sparring

Sparring (Kumite) is an opportunity for students to practice their techniques and reaction timing with a partner in a controlled manner. Students learn how to move properly when responding to an opponent by focusing on footwork, timing and techniques. They practice with focus mitts, striking shields and other training devices to develop precision and control over their techniques. Once basic skills are mastered, students also participate in sparring with protective equipment in a safe environment.

Weapons

The weapons (Kobudo) class uses the martial arts weaponry systems which originated on the island of Okinawa and were brought to mainland Japan. Students learn the traditional Japanese art of the bo (staff), and sai. Students must have a minimum rank of Yellow belt before training in the Kobudo class.

Self-Defense

If you’re tired of the same old workout at the gym, and you want to be challenged physically and mentally, Paladin Hall Martial Arts has just the workout for you! Learn how to recognize potentially dangerous situations and respond appropriately to them.

In Paladin Hall’s self-defense lessons, students will learn verbal confrontation skills coupled with safety strategies, and physical self-defense techniques to escape from violent attacks. The program will involve instruction and applications from a variety of martial arts. Students will learn how to kick, punch, and block; how to defend against various punches, chokes, grabs, and take downs; and how to deal with multiple attackers.

Students will not just punch and kick in the air, but rather learn how to develop proper reaction timing and power with their techniques, as their moves are applied on different striking targets.  With these striking fundamentals, students will develop their focus and concentration while learning how to improve their strength and muscular endurance through a variety of conditioning exercises. Students will also build their self-confidence by learning key self-defense tactics and improving their situational awareness in a controlled, safe environment.

No previous martial arts experience is required. Lessons are available for Kids, Teens & Adults.
